Labor and My Newborn Baby

My labor went pretty well. I started getting contractions on Saturday night Dec 6th that were 3-5min apart. I went into the hospital, but I was still only 1cm dilated and didn't progress over the hour they observed me. So they made me go home and I continued to have contractions all that night and the next day on Sunday. On Sunday my contractions hurt like nothing I've ever experienced before, but they were spaced too far apart to go into the hospital. That day was so frustrating because I was in so much pain but I knew they were just going to send me home again-- at one time I screamed to Jared from the other room during a contraction, "I am going to kill somebody!!"

Finally around 10pm we went back to the hospital. I was 3cm dilated, then after 40min of observation I was at 6cm dilated! A bunch of people rushed in to give me my IV, epidural, etc. The epidural was the best thing ever, I can't imagine giving birth without one.

There were a few scary parts when Jarom's heart rate dropped really low. I guess my contractions were so intense and close together that the poor little guy never had time to rest. They had me get up on all fours to see if they could help him cope and relieve pressure off his umbilical cord. That was interesting...especially since my legs were completely numb and so I had to try and hold all my weight with my arms, until I slowly started falling forward and they helped me up again. I started pushing around 4am, and after only 30 minutes of pushing our little guy came out at 4:31am! Seeing our baby for the first time was such a surreal and special experience. I've never felt so happy to see my healthy, screaming little boy and I still can't believe that this little guy grew inside me for 39weeks and 6 days!

On Jarom's 2nd day of life he was circumcised in the hospital. The doctor explained the whole process with me beforehand, explaining how much babies usually cry during the process so we could be prepared. Jarom's legs were strapped down to the table which he cried at, but then through the whole process did he cry? Nope! He fell asleep and was out for the whole thing! Jared said it was more painful for him to watch the process than it seemed to hurt Jarom.

These pictures were taken when Jarom was around 2-3wks old. I can't believe how different he looks from these pictures now.
