Here is a quick update on how our growing baby is doing.
First Appointment:
At our first appointment I was just a little over 9wks along. My doctor didn't think we'd be able to hear the heartbeat, but she tried anyways. We were so surprised to hear a loud, healthy 180 heart rate! The heartbeat was so fast, but she said it was normal for the little guys to have quick ones. Jared thought it sounded like a helicopter so for a few days after he kept calling it our "helicopter baby" and mimicking the noise when he touched my belly.
I also had to get my blood drawn that day, which no one told me about until I was in the crazy blood-drawing room. I have an insane fear of needles. It actually didn't hurt that bad, but then the nurse lost the vein, so we switched arms, then she lost it again in the other arm, so another nurse came and took it out of my hand. They filled 4 vials, and I went back to work with bandages all over the place!
Second Appointment:
We had our second appointment last week when I was just over 13 weeks. It was very similar to the first appt, we just listened for the heartbeat again. It was a little scary at first because it took a while to hear. We would hear a few beats, and then a loud noise and then the beat would go away until she moved the device around some more to find it again. This happened a few times and my doctor started chuckling saying that our silly baby kept moving all over the place. She said the loud noise was the baby kicking on its way to another location. So although I haven't felt our baby kick yet, at least we heard it kick a lot :). Jared is already hoping that the baby is practicing soccer in the womb. haha. I really love my doctor because although we heard a few heartbeats and she could tell that the baby was healthy, she insisted to go get another more sensitive machine so we could hear the heartbeat loud and clear. This time the heart rate wasn't quite as fast at 169.

I Love Mid-week Dates
Jared and I have been very busy trying to get him ready for his internship-- running errands, buying clothes, and other boring things. Yesterday we were able to go on a relaxing and fairly cheap date and not think about anything else. It was so wonderful!
First we went to the BYU Museum of Art to see the Masterworks of Victorian Art exhibit (for free). People are so talented, it's amazing! I used to not appreciate art, but ever since I took a History of Creativity class at BYU my eyes have been opened and I love going to exhibits. One thing that did irk me though...next to each piece of art there was an explanation and at the bottom of that it said "From the collection of ___ or Donated by Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe". At this one piece of art it said "Donated by Dr. and Mrs. Jack whatever his last name was". First, I can't stand it when people have a Doctorate degree and so they MUST publicize it as much as possible to the whole world. And second of all, the man doesn't even allow his wife's name to be put on the little placard. How rude!
Next we went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden (partly paid by a gift card). The food was so yummy as always and we did an early dinner, so there weren't many people in the restaurant.
Lastly we went the Creamery on Ninth to pick up a few groceries, and so I could get ice cream. (Jared is not a big fan of ice cream. Me, I could eat it every day for every meal if it was healthy. Don't worry Mom, I have cut down a lot.) It was sooo good, and guess how much I spent-- $1!! The child size scoop is still plenty!
